We live in interesting times.

I've wondered what would be considered the most boring time to have lived in - with respect to a certain generation in a sedentary civilization and defining "boring" as having little to no external as well as internal squabbles, feuds, or events. Just going on a longshot I'd have to say it'd probably have been in China and having extreme ignorance of their time periods - I'll just leave it at that.

Certainly with the advent of mass communication we can be assured that such fate won't happen to our generation, indeed the world appears very dynamic from my viewpoint albeit hopefully it won't become as active as it was in 1940.

After 30 years of oppressive theocratical conservative rule, the Islamic nation of Iran appears to have a voice for change and the recent June 20 protests despite Ali Khamenei's fair warning suggests that there might be a revolution, though I am skeptical of such an occurrence given the reformist's lack of organization and the mullah regime's seemingly limitless supply of tear gas.

I think it important to point out that America's relations with Iran is completely the byproduct of our overzealous interventionist policies, most admittedly with respect to the highly supported view that we supplied Saddam mustard gas which he used to kill several thousand Iranians as well as Kurdistans in the Iraq-Iran war. There appears to be a spirited attack by congressional Republicans on Obama for not flying in to the rescue!!! ... ....behind his podium with words for support of the reformists.

Really? Do you republicans not realize that your divergence from this conservative issue has led to the decimation of not only your party but the integrity of our nation? The inherited democrats from Roosevelt have just so completely ruined the definition of our historic conservative, do people not realize that it was our very founding father, Washington who warned of intervening in foreign affairs? Do they seem to forget the fact that when World War I and II occurred, America wasn't in the front lines until well AFTER the wars began? Indeed, much of the current troubles with respect to America can be directly traced to our involvement in World War I - but I won't go into that.

It's insane that the Republicans can call themselves conservatives and pitch a hissy fit for someone who's standing for conservatives ideas, it'd be like Churchill condemning Thatcher's stance on strict monetary policy.

Obama needs to restrain from directly intervening in these riots, indeed what possible good could come from America's open support for the reformists in a nation when that very party has expressed their loathing of us? What possible good could come from committing words to their cause, does Mccain think that because Obama and America support the reformists the mullahs and basij are suddenly going to have a miraculous turn of hearts go home and sing a big kumbaya? Heck no! If nothing else, violence would only INCREASE, and America wouldn't be able to enter a military engagement otherwise.

By not committing to the events and not meddling in the affairs, we've robbed Ali Khamenei of an argument that we're perpetuating the events, indeed he's had to blame the United Kingdom as the main cause as by saying they're the "most evil" - it brought tears to my eyes to not hear America be called, "the most evil"

The future of Iran to me looks bleak unless a revolution does occur, for Ahmadinejad most certainly feels threatened by recent events and the years he's had building up personal contacts within the revolutionary guard and the Basij completely undermine Ali Khamenei's authority, with the inevitable strikes that will occur after the protests that fail, Ahmadinejad will have a golden opportunity to have justified martial law and a man as smart as he will know how to manipulate it to further his dictatorship really the reformists have backed themselves into a corner, there is no going back after these recent events - it's a critical time of either revolution or suppression.

For us however, it's a time of lamenting our horrible horrible US soccer team. Augh.
